Applications for 2020 SPC NS Mentorship Program With Hockey Nova Scotia Due Friday February 21st , 2020 11PM AST!!

For those of you who are not familiar with the program, Hockey Nova Scotia offers a High Performance Program for young hockey players (male and female) ages 12-17 years old. SPC NS in co-ordination with HNS runs a mentorship program for health care professionals looking to gain more experience in sport coverage while under the guidance of a mentor. The mentorship program runs during the HPP camps as medical coverage and we are actively seeking volunteers (trainers) for the camps as well as Mentors for those trainers. This is a great opportunity for Physiotherapists or 2nd year Physio Students who are interested in sports and sport coverage to work in an environment with a Mentor to gain experience and confidence in a high paced, hands on-setting. There is an opportunity for 7 Trainers and 3  positions for the Mentors.

SPC Social Event Feb. 28th Axe Throwing!

When: Feb. 28th, 2020

Details: Come mingle with other SPC members during a fun evening of axe throwing!! Space is limited so sign up early!!

Coverage Needed for National Cheer-leading Competition- Cheer Expo

When: March 27-29th, 2020
Where:  Halifax Forum
Details: Looking for medical coverage for this high paced exciting event!! The competition features a wide variety of age and skill levels.
Compenstion: 20$/hr for those with SFR. Physio students welcome to shaddow/participate as medical.

North American Indigenous Games 2020

When: July 11th to 19th, 2020
Where:  Halifax Regional Municipality and Millbrook First Nation.
Details: There will be 16 sports spread over 18 venues. Duties will include both field and clinic coverage at a central location where all the athletes can go for their athletic injury care (similar in fashion to how the Canada Games event coverage done throughout the country).

The sports (and potential venues) are:

  • Archery(3D)- Millbrook (outdoor venue)
  • Athletics –  Beazley field (outdoor venue)
  • Badminton – Citadel High community centre entrance
  • Baseball – Beazley  (outdoor venue)
  • Basketball – SMU tower (2 courts), Dalplex (4 courts), Halifax Grammer (1 court)
  • Beach Volleyball – Harbour East (Burnside; demo sport)
  • Canoe/Kayak – Lake Banook
  • Cross Country–Point Pleasant Park
  • Golf – The Links at Brunello
  • Lacrosse – RBC centre
  • Rifle Shooting – Bull Meadow Rifle range
  • Soccer – BMO soccer facility
  • Softball – Halifax Commons
  • Swimming – Dal University
  • Volleyball – Canada Games Centre
  • Wrestling – SMU arena
