Elite athlete wellbeing amidst Covid-19: Coping with and adapting to unusual athletic career and life disruptions
This webinar will focus on the experiences and coping processes of high-performance athletes, with particular attention to their wellbeing in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic and postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The webinar will begin with a presentation of ongoing and developing research on high performance athlete coping and wellbeing in relation to the postponement of the Tokyo Games, and discussion related to this research and to the topic of athlete coping and wellbeing more broadly will ensue.

Dr. Erica Bennett is a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in the School of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. She conducts research and teaches in the area of sport and exercise psychology. Erica’s research focuses on stress, emotion, and coping processes in three main areas including: elite athlete wellbeing, body image and physical activity across the lifecourse, and children with congenital heart disease’s physical activity experiences. Erica is also a past golf professional and now works with high performance athletes in a mental skills performance consulting role.
