The Health & Performance Centre (HPC) is a unit within the University of Guelph’s Department of Student Wellness that prevents and treats sports and activity-related injuries for the University and surrounding community. Our multidisciplinary team provides a variety of core services, including sports medicine, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, concussion management, pedorthics & orthotics, nutrition, and naturopathic medicine. As Clinical Manager, Health & Performance Centre, you will have a uniquely exciting opportunity to operationalize the vision and goals of the Centre as it relates to the clinical care of its clients.

Reporting to the Director, Student Wellness, you will develop and implement, in collaboration with HPC stakeholders, a vision for a premier sports medicine clinic and high-performance centre for University athletes, students, staff and faculty, and the broader community. You will also develop initiatives that support the needs of clients from a variety of backgrounds, ensuring services are rooted in the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

As Clinical Manager, you will have leadership over the clinical aspects of the Centre, working with practitioners in developing high-quality clinical services, while working simultaneously to develop a multidisciplinary practitioner team that responds to the needs of the community and to foster high-functioning team dynamics. This will include recruiting Centre practitioners, developing clinical policy and procedures, coordinating communications to all stakeholders, providing professional development opportunities, and collaborating with the Manager, Business Operations regarding revenue-generation opportunities.

With a focus on high performance and injury prevention, you will work specifically with the Manager, Athlete Services in the Department of Athletics, the Head Athletic Therapist, team coaches and HPC practitioners, as appropriate, in developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating health care for University varsity athletes. You will lead the medical care of athletes, ensuring high-quality, timely access to services, field-side support and care, coordination of the varsity Interdisciplinary Support Teams (IST) practitioners, medical clearances and return-to-play supports. A collaborative leader, you will work closely with other units within Student Wellness to provide holistic care of student athletes, including coordination with mental health services and supports for students with disabilities, as appropriate.

Playing a hands-on clinical role, you will provide physiotherapy services for varsity athletes, including conducting physical examinations, assessing athlete injuries, developing treatment plans and evaluating in compliance with college requirements, and will also work as part of the multidisciplinary team in the care of student athletes, including athletic therapists, IST practitioners, coaches and athletics staff.


Meeting the expectations of the Clinical Manager, Health & Performance Centre role calls for a registered physiotherapist who leads by example and whose profile includes:

  • Registration as a Physiotherapist in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists, with a background in high-performance sport.
  • A Master’s in Kinesiology or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience and expertise working within a multidisciplinary environment and in the provision of care within an integrated support team model.
  • Evidence of experience in leading and managing teams, and documented success of fostering positive and constructive workplace cultures across several departments.


  • Specialized designation in Sport Physiotherapy.
