Date: June 24th, 2017 from 12:00am to12:00am America/Toronto

This course is going to introduce the participants to the benefits and strengths of Anatomical Acupuncture, TCM Acupuncture and IMS Acupuncture. The two-day course will provide each participant concepts and techniques that they can introduce into their practice when they return home to their practice.

The prerequisite of the course is that the participants have:

1: taken a course in acupuncture that has taught them the techniques of needle insertion,

2: the dangers/complications of needle insertion and

3: what to do to if a complication occurs.

Mr. Freer graduated in 1973 with his degree in Physiotherapy from UWO.  His professional practice started in Barrie at RVH as a staff physiotherapist.  His quest for experience directed him towards working for the Simcoe County Home Care Unit providing home care physiotherapy throughout the county and working for Nancy Turner in a OHIP funded private clinic.  In 1978 Doug and his partner Terry Page purchased the Barrie OHIP clinic and this started his work in private practice.  Doug continues to work today in Private Practice in his clinic in Barrie and Collingwood.

His quest for knowledge directed him towards the fledgling Manual Therapy courses provided by the Orthopaedic Division of CPA.  He obtained his Part “B” certificate in 1983.  He assisted and taught in the system until 2000.

Realizing that manual therapy techniques would not “assist” all clients he looked at alternative therapies.  He was introduced to Acupuncture in 1974 with a course in Kingston taught by physiotherapist Cliff Fowler and professor Roy Walmsley.  This started Doug on his journey into Anatomical Acupuncture and TCM.  He became certified in 1991 by AFCI and taught and examined with AFCI until 2014.  He has taken courses from Dr. Joe Wong, Dr. Sona Tahan, Dr. Linda Rapson, Dr. Chan Gunn and Dr. Stephan Aung.

His initial focus was the Anatomical Acupuncture but over time he realized that TCM acupuncture gives one more “tools” to treat chronic MSK problems.

In 2007 Doug completed his certification in Gunn IMS practice.
