The Sport Medicine Centre in the Faculty of Kinesiology is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Physiotherapist.

The Sport Medicine Centre is an integrated and multidisciplinary clinical, education and research facility within the Faculty of Kinesiology, specializing in the treatment and rehabilitation of sport related and other musculoskeletal injuries. The Sport Medicine Centre provides comprehensive sport medicine, surgical, physiotherapy, and other health care services to recreational, developing and elite athletes as well as other patients referred to us in Calgary and southern Alberta.

The Physiotherapist reports to the Clinical Manager, Sport Medicine Centre and delivers physiotherapy services for patients seeking treatment for sport related injuries or other neuromusculoskeletal injuries. As well the position is responsible for the supervision of Physiotherapy aides, Physiotherapy volunteers and Physiotherapy students (when applicable). This position requires scheduling flexibility based on fluctuating market demands and patient need.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

In the area of Patient Care
• Grow and manage a full caseload of patients in accordance with the service standards and expectations outlined by the Clinical Manager
• Provide assessment, treatment and management of patients in assigned clinical areas
• Ensure the provision of evidence-informed care
• Ensure patient care documentation is complete in accordance with Practice Standards of Physiotherapy Alberta
• Keep patient information confidential and releases this information only to authorized persons according to applicable legislation
• Communicate with other services, departments and individuals to facilitate interdisciplinary coordination of patient care
• Attend all assigned meetings, conferences, and fulfills the obligations arising from same
• Educate patients and family in necessary continuing treatments and procedures
• Instruct and educate the patient and family in the appropriate follow up treatment that should be followed after the patient’s discharge
• Ensure that the dignity and individual needs of the patient are addressed
• Consider patient safety in all stages of treatment

In the Area of Information Systems
• Collect workload statistics in line with established procedures
• Maintain all necessary records according to service procedures
• Communicate appropriate concerns and problems to the Clinical Manager

In the Area of Human Relations
• Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients, staff members, the University Community and other stakeholders
• Show respect for all staff members integrity and opinions when they differ from his/her own
• Accept responsibility for his/her own interactions with internal/external staff members and the University Community
• Participate in the formation and maintenance of a positive and supportive working climate

In the Area of Education
• Adhere to departmental and program educational standards
• Participate in ongoing education within the Physiotherapy Unit, SMC and the Community
• Keep familiar with current practices and trends in his/her field by attending professional meetings, seminars, conventions and conferences and reading professional journals
• Assist and participate in relevant clinical and/or research projects

Qualifications / Requirements:
• Baccalaureate or Master of Physiotherapy (or equivalent) from a university program recognized by the Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators
• Registered in good standing with Physiotherapy Alberta (Must provide a copy to the Clinical Manager on a yearly basis)
• Demonstration of advanced, post-graduate orthopedic training
• Previous work with interdisciplinary health care teams, athletes or sports teams is considered an asset
• Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrate initiative, creativity, empathy and sound judgment
• Perform clinical assessments, diagnose, and implement evidence-informed treatment plans
• Effectively communicates with all members of the health care team to support optimal patient outcomes
• Provides ongoing evaluation of patient progress and facilitates proper referrals when necessary
• Administer and collect outcome measurement information
• Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives
• Engage in continual learning and skills development
• Must be reliable, cooperative, flexible and must be able to demonstrate the ability to read and write legibly with a proven degree of competence in the English language
• Capable of using all equipment pertaining to the safe and effective functioning of the service
• Must have highly developed organizational and time management skills
• Perform a variety of complex therapeutic interventions without supervision
• A criminal record check is required
