What is Sport Physiotherapy Canada (SPC)?

SPC is one of the special interest groups within the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) as well as a provider association within the Sports Medicine and Science Council of Canada (SMSCC). SPC's primary goal is to provide quality sport therapy, rehabilitation and counselling to athletes and recreational participants before, during and after injury.

Sport Physiotherapy Canada (SPC) is a volunteer driven, not for profit organization consisting of graduate physiotherapists and physiotherapy students who have an interest in Sport.

We are "an organization which coordinates, promotes and provides programs and services for the health, safety and optimal performance of all participants in sport and sport physical therapy."

SPC's National Office is situated just outside of Ottawa in the Canotek Industrial Park along with various National Sport Organizations(NSOs), Multi-Service and Multi-sport Organizations.

History

SPC was founded in 1972 and has continued to grow into a major component of the national sports medicine scene. In 1978, SPC, along with the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine (CASM), Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) and Canadian Association of Sport Sciences (CASS - now known as the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology - CSEP) was instrumental in the establishment of the SMSCC.

In 1982, a post graduate education system was implemented within Sport Physiotherapy Canada to maintain a high standard of professional care.
